The start of a new year, and new decade, reminds me of the start of the Major Arcana in the tarot deck. The Fool is the first card and is starting on a long and momentous journey. He hasn’t a care in the world and is travelling on full of optimism and self-confidence. He doesn’t know where he’s going or where he’ll end up, but he doesn’t care – he’s just enjoying the journey. This is how I feel that we must look at this new decade. Trust that you are where you are supposed to be now and that you will end up in your destined place. Don’t worry about your future, just enjoy the journey and face any oncoming challenges with positivity and resourcefulness.

How are those new year resolutions coming on? The festive time is over and it is back to the old routine. The last card (The Fool) told us about a new start, now the Magician comes along to help put those new ideas, dreams or resolutions into action. Now is the time for you to put into action all your dreams and wants. This is the new you, and the new chapter of your life. The Magician says ‘you are worthy, go for it.’

The High Priestess. She is the keeper of secrets and sits in front of a curtain guarding the mystical information behind it. What secrets are you keeping? Do you have an interest in all things mystical or psychic phenomenon? We all have intuition (gut feelings) within us but either don’t use it, or ignore it, as the mind gets in the way. Now is a good time to …

This card is all about love, harmony and union. Are you in a comfortable place? Do you have richness in your life? Not necessarily financial richness, but richness in friends, family, work and leisure activities. You are a loving spirit that inhabits a body, therefore be kind to yourself. You deserve to be happy. Give yourself the gift of love – ‘to thine own self be true.’ Appreciate, validate and communicate those around you, but most of all appreciate, and love, yourself.

Although we’re at the start of March, which is Pisces, the Emperor is an Aries. Ariens are natural leaders, and he is a born leader in charge of his own destiny. He has the characteristics of scientists, politicians or military personnel. He has emotion but it is hidden deep within him. His head serves him well and emotion gets in the way of logic. There is a coldness or austereness about him, but he gets things done without all the idiosyncratic procrastination of his peers. Fiercely ambitious and logical he strives for success and power. So how are you doing with those new year resolutions now? Are you hankering for a different life or promotion? The Emperor says, ‘think logically’. Put away your fears and reservations, believe in yourself and just go for it.
